Chiropractic Adjustment

Chiropractic Adjustments

Chiropractic care uses various techniques involving the chiropractor’s hands or specialized instruments to apply controlled force to the spinal column. The goal of chiropractic adjustments is to improve spinal mobility, correct improper joint mechanics and help balance the body’s physical function as well as boosting a person's natural healing capabilities. Seek chiropractic services from our chiropractor at West Monroe Chiropractic Spine & Injury Center, including spinal adjustments, myofascial and trigger point therapy, functional dry needling, pulsed electromagnetic frequency therapy (PEMF), non-surgical spinal decompression therapy and Strong Posture® functional movement rehabilitation.

.

Why Is Chiropractic Care Used?

Chiropractic care helps treat lower back pain, neck pain, headaches, and other causes of aches and pains. A chiropractic adjustment is a safe and effective way to correct mechanical failures that commonly occur in joints. In addition to other chiropractic services, spinal adjustments can help improve the overall health of the body. Regular chiropractic adjustments effectively manage most chronic mechanical spine problems and help maintain optimal joint alignment and movement.

When Not to Seek Chiropractic Care

Many signs may signify it is time to seek chiropractic care, such as pain, aches, stiffness, and tenderness. However, there are some conditions where seeing a chiropractor is not recommended. For example, it is not recommended to see a chiropractor if you are seeking care in an emergency or anything life threatening. If you have severe osteoporosis, loss of strength in the arm or leg, cancer in the spine, increased risk of stroke, or an upper neck abnormality please seek a medical evaluation first.

What to Expect during Your Visit with a Chiropractor

During your visit with our chiropractor, you will be asked questions about your health history and then you will receive an appropriate physical exam. In addition, he will pay close attention to your spine and recommend other examinations and tests, including x-rays and advanced imaging tests, if needed to be able to accurately diagnose and manage your condition(s).

During the Procedure

Dr. Steffins will have you get in a specific position(s) during your chiropractic adjustment to help target and treat specific areas. For example, most patients lay face down on a padded table, and our chiropractor uses either his hands or a computer assisted instrument to deliver a controlled thrust to the joints to release and clear up any tension or stress. It might be possible to hear popping or cracking noises, but this is normal and results from the trapped gas in the joints getting released.

After the Procedure

Though rare, some patients do experience minor side effects for a few days after a chiropractic adjustment. For example, it is possible to experience headaches, fatigue, tenderness, and pain in the areas treated, but our chiropractor will make every effort to rule out potential risks, ask for your feedback and then render the safest and most effective chiropractic adjustments. In most situations, these side effects will clear up in a few days, just like soreness after starting a new exercise. However, if they do not get better, you can communicate with our chiropractor to discuss your options to get the most relief possible in the least amount of time.
